It has been so long since I've written a post on here, but I have definitely been sewing. I tried making a pink corset that took SO much time and detail, yet failed. Between the frustration over that and the demand of in-person classes and projects, I have taken a bit of a break.
Anyways, I had an early Halloween party to go to this past Saturday, and I did not have an outfit planned, so I figured I'd make it. I've been in love with this outfit from Paris Hilton's 21st birthday party ever since I saw Kendall Jenner's inspired look from her birthday.
The outfit is so sparkly and eye-catching and the silhouette beautifully falls on her body. With her wealth, this outfit was probably made from real crystals. I, a broke college student, cannot afford real crystals, so I took to JOANN and, to my surprise, found this absolutely stunning shimmery fabric. It's a knit fabric intended for athletic wear, but from afar, it mimics the sheen perfectly. It honestly looks like liquid metal on the floor in the picture on the left.
I was also able to find crystal trim to use as a necklace and for the straps. The women at JOANN were so helpful and excited when I told them about the costume.
I also got funding for a BioTech project, and I was able to purchase this dress form. I never cared that much for a dress form, but it makes draping SO MUCH EASIER. I understand the hype now. It is a very cheap dress form, but I like that it is adjustable. Anyways, because of the dress form, it took me 5 minutes to get the right draping and sew it all together.
Here's a picture of the dress pinned on the dress form. I ended up doing a straight stitch with clear thread (would recommend a zigzag if you want to keep the stretchiness) and left an unhemmed edge on the bottom.
I'm going to skip through talking about the rest of the process and just jump to showing pictures. I do have A LOT of extra material that needs to be used, so I'll probably make a crop top out of it.
