My best friend regularly makes trips to the thrift store with me. She's one of the few people I can go thrifting with. To be successful at thrifting, you need to really go through everything and have an open mind. You also need patience. Most people I go with make me feel rushed, but I don't feel that with her.

I've made her gifts before. I actually think she's the only person I feel comfortable making gifts for at this moment. As I've mentioned, most of my pieces are prototypic. I'm working on finishing my seams nicely. She doesn't care though.

Anyways, while thrifting, she picked up this dress that has this really stretchy material that she thought would be cool to make something with. She always expressed wanting to make a two piece set to wear at the beach, so she sent me this inspo pic and we got to working.

It's a gift for her, but it's also a process we're both working on together so I can make sure everything fits her right. It also gives us time to spend together since we've both been so busy.
Below is a video of the current state. The top is finished for the most part. I'm working on the skirt now. I made some straps for it, but it was too thick. I did learn this new way to sew this type of material without getting too much snagging which is cool. In the video you can see me hemming the bottom edge haha.

The nice thing about making a gift is that it forces me to focus on the little details because it's for someone else. I don't want it to have raggedy seams if I'm giving it away! That's been one of my goals this semester, so I'm happy to get to see it through in this piece.
I'll hopefully have this done by the end of the week. I'll update this blog post with the final product on her whenever that happens.
