I chose painting as my new medium to work in. Painting isn't necessarily "new" to me, but I don't do it as often as I'd like. I made this abstract piece that's inspired by a piece I saw from some girl on TikTok. I don't know what her name is, but her handle is @shaemde. I just really liked how colorful it is, and I thought this would be a great way to play around with color combinations. Below is a picture of it hanging on my wall by my desk.
This oddly reminds me of the data visualizations I was doing for a project. I was tracking the things I did each day, and each color represented a different activity. I've inserted an image of the final visualization below.
Painting was really therapeutic. It's something about the feeling of paint gliding on canvas that is so relieving. It was also nice because other than picking colors, the act was really repetitive. I just had to color in blocks. It was honestly a bit hard to pick colors that would look good together, and I ended up having to put this down and pick it back up a couple of times because I was getting a little overwhelmed with the colors. All in all, I'm really happy with how it looks. It also adds some color to the drab white walls in my rental.
