Quick little post on this dress I made from a thrifted men's button up. I got it a while back with the intention of using it as a flannel/cover up in the colder months, but lo and behold, it never got used. Lol. This dress makes me feel smart-chic. I don't really like that phrase, but I don't know how else to describe it. I used the extra sleeve fabric to make ties for the back which gives it a nice cinching detail. I'm definitely going to wear this on a cafe or picnic date.
Here's some pics of it before and during the process of making it.
I honestly don't know where I got the inspiration for this piece for, but I was altering these old knit tops with a similar neckline cutout earlier, so I just decided to use the same pattern here. I'll insert some pics below.
This green knit piece is inspired by TheLinebyK's Etta ribbed knit top. I spotted this top at the thrift store, and as you can tell by the second picture, it was fine, but it wasn't the most flattering in terms of the neckline. I've worn this top multiple times since making it, yet I never took pictures.. *sigh*. I'll update this when I get a picture in it, but trust me, it looks a LOT better. This is what I love about these small alterations. They make a piece look 500x better and more flattering. Fast fashion designers these days just don't get it anymore man. There's a reason (...sometimes) why those designer brands are so amazing... they just know how to complement the body with the most (seemingly) minor details in cuts.
5.5.21 Update on the Green Knit
I finally wore the top again, so here's a picture of it! You can be the judge on the effect of the cutout, but I think it definitely elevates the piece.
