Focusing on the Process

Today, I wanted to finish the knit two piece set I started on and actually focus on finishing all of the seams and cutting off all the loose threads. Particularly, I also wanted to take my time when sewing, so that the seams are even and neat looking. When I first started working on this piece, I set a time limit of 2 hours for the entire process and because of that, I rushed a lot of it.

Below are some process pictures. For my sewing sesh today, it was just me, my coffee, and the machine. I normally play music, but today I wanted all of my focus to be on the process. On the right, you can see a picture of my makeshift cover. I lost the plastic piece that covers the bobbin, so I used an old cyanotype negative and taped it down.

I used this time as almost a meditative/mindfulness moment for me. I, like many others, have been swamped with work lately, so this was a nice small chunk of time where I could just focus on one task and nothing else. The lack of music also helped me listen to the wind and the birds chirping outside which was really nice and calming.

The final piece is below. I like it, but I definitely want to try this again with no time constraints because the skirt is honestly really short and the panels on the top don't line up perfectly which kind of bother me, but I couldn't really fix it without making it a whole thing. I do like the multi-way tie on this. You can either tie it in the front or tie it in the back and get this 'X' situation in the front.
