A New Form of Escapism + Corset Tees

I really needed an escape this morning. With the semester coming to a close, I'm realizing I have a lot more free time, so my mind naturally wandered to some interpersonal issues I was putting off. It's one of those situations that no matter what decision is made, it still hurts, so I woke up this morning with a weird sense of emptiness. Usually when that happens, I get dragged to socialize in class or to a café to finish work, but I had nothing pulling me. I sat down and tried to meditate and journal, but honestly, I just was not in the mood to deal with anything. I'm the kind of person that thinks things 10 times front and back (I blame my Virgo moon), and I was tired of thinking. Now, I'm just at the point where I got to keep it pushing.

Anyways, I decided to sew instead. My professor, Paul, helped me recognize that I have these restorative, meditative moments when I sew, and today, it definitely helped. Today, my sewing machine, coffee, and some Sam Wills got me through the morning. Random music recs: Undercover by Sam Wills and Niña Fresa by The O'My's are my favs right now.

I have a thrifted football tee that I've been meaning to turn into a corset top, so I made that. I'm realizing how easy it has become for me to make these now. It took probably 45 minutes tops. I did make it a ~tad~ bit too tight, so I'm hoping it'll loosen up in the wash.

Below are some process pics.

I also decided to play around with some bleach dye. I added bleach into an old spray bottle and just went at it. Interestingly, the color turns to a burnt orange shade which is nice. I worry that I added too much bleach. It started looking more like acid wash which I'm not too fond of.

All in all, I'm not mad at it. I'm still going to wear it out today. I realized I actually have things to do... it's just going to require a bit more internal motivation than I'm used to. There's some scholarships I'm interested in plus preparation for grad school... I'm in a weird in-between phase in my life where I'm preparing for the next thing, so I want to try to make a conscious effort to live in this moment as well. There's no time like the present.

While we're on the topic of corset tees, here's some old tops I've made that I never posted on here. They have more clean cut edges. The second top looks a bit weird on me, but it's because it's a gift for a friend that has a significantly larger bust than I do, so the cinching starts lower. On her, it appears more cropped and looks much better.
